Black Hat and Trade Wars: How Far Is One Willing To Go?

As you have noticed, (and I warned you!) I am starting to go on the more “bold and dangerous side” of the content here at Global From Asia. Trade wars, protests, blue collar Americans getting sacked, and this week, black hat tactics on Amazon.

Another nerve to strike for you.

As if the trade war and protests weren’t enough – how do you deal with black hat tactics used on Amazon? Has it happened to you? Or even as a buyer on Amazon, do you read the reviews? Do you know (or care) if they are real or fake?

What is fair in today’s borderless society? Boosting up one’s own listing (product details page on Amazon), or even worse – driving a competitor’s listing down?

Are we truly entering a world that is “dog eat dog”. Survival of the fittest? If you can’t beat them, join them?

Enter this week’s podcast guest – Howard Thai – the Professor of Amazon. I have been meaning to get him on the show and knew this topic would be touchy. While I was in Shenzhen, China last week, we had a nice hot pot lunch and then headed over to a coffee shop to record this interview.

Hijackers, softening the field, upvoted negative reviews, its all discussed in this show. I feel it is my job, as a podcaster, to get this stuff out there. I haven’t heard of the concept of softening the field, and while it may make you sick to your stomach (my gut was wrenching during some of the interview) – I believe by being aware of the negative and black hat tactics – will only make you stronger.
